Joy from Criticism

“We should owe more gratefulness to those who have treated us ungratefully  than to those who are constantly grateful to us and pay us back in this vain life. Likewise, the greatest blessing of all is when they unjustly curse us and we accept it silently and with kindness.”

Sanctification

“…if God overlooked all these things and accepted us into Paradise as we are, we would create problems there, as well. For this reason, temptations are allowed in this life so as to clean us up, purify our soul with sorrow and weeping, and oblige us to take refuge in God in order to find our salvation.”

Love of the World

“My thought tells me that the greatest enemy – even greater than the devil – for our soul’s salvation is the worldly spirit, for it sweetly misleads us and in the end eternally embitters us. Yet, if we saw the devil himself, we would be terrified and forced to immediately resort to God and secure Paradise.”

Discernment

“Those who, by the Grace of God, managed to understand the vanity of this life, have obtained the greatest gift. It is not necessary for them to have the gift of insight to foresee the future, for it is enough to prepare for the salvation of their soul and take better spiritual measures to be saved.”

Pure Acts

“Whatever we do we must do purely for Christ, keeping in mind that Christ sees us and is observing us; Christ must be at the center of our every action. The human element must not get in the way.”

Love of Christ

A New Baptism

“Repentance is a baptism of tears. Through repentance man is rebaptized, reborn. Through his denial the Apostle Peter betrayed Christ in a way but because he wept bitterly he received forgiveness for his fall. In other words his sincere repentance washed him clean again. You see God first created the earth He sees and all creation and then took from the dust of the earth and created man. Man is firstborn of the flesh and that in Baptism he is reborn spiritually through water, a creation of God and through the Uncreated Divine Grace of the Holy Spirit – through water and the Spirit – he becomes a new man.”

Spiritual Joy

“In the spiritual life things are in reverse: when you’re left holding the short end of the stick you feel good; and when you give it to someone else you feel badly. When you accept an injustice and are prepared to justify your neighbor you accept Christ himself into your heart Who was often wronged and maligned.  It is then that Christ cannot be evicted from your heart and fills you with peace and gladness. Try it my children and experience this great joy! Learn to be happy with this spiritual joy not with the worldly one and every day it will be Easter.”

Modern Religion

” And now we are seeking to have a type of Christianity without the crucifixion; we want to go straight to the resurrection. We’re trying to form a Christianity and a monasticism made to our measure. We don’t want to be deprived of anything. But if we are to experience the supernatural, we must live supernaturally.”

Being Reborn

“Repentance is a baptism of tears. Through repentance man is rebaptized, reborn. Through his denial the Apostle Peter betrayed Christ in a way but because he wept bitterly he received forgiveness for his fall. In other words his sincere repentance washed him clean again…”
